Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens. 

We firmly believe in the importance of a good relationship between home and school. We aim to give every child the very best possible start in life. At Newdigate, we want all our children to:  

• discover and maintain the joy of learning through a warm, caring, nurturing and supportive community 

• achieve the highest standard they can through a stimulating, safe, secure environment 

• value each individual’s worth and realise that each member of the school community has a positive contribution to offer 

According to Geraldine Marshall, Headteacher of Newdigate Primary School and Nursery:  

“At Newdigate, it’s our job to help children aspire for a better future so that they can achieve more. Not only do we constantly strive to improve standards in teaching and learning, we also focus on personal development and pupil well-being. We know that by developing our children in a holistic way, we will help them achieve their goals and enable them to achieve more in their education and lives. So, we asked governors, parents, children and staff what values and behaviours they thought we should develop in our children. 

We decided on five core values: kindness, teamwork, honesty, self-belief and perseverance.  

Kindness - Is doing something nice 

You can show kindness by: 

• Share a smile 

• Share kind words 

• Support and encourage others 

• Help others 

Teamwork - Together everyone achieves more 

You can show teamwork by: 

• All work together 

• Disagree respectfully 

• Listen to others 

• Make sure everyone gets a turn 

Honesty - Always be truthful 

you can show honesty by: 

• Own up to your mistakes 

• Tell the truth 

• Be brave enough to own up 

• Use respectful language 

Self-belief - You can do it 

You can show self-belief by: 

• Volunteering an answer or an opinion in class 

• Not being afraid of making a mistake 

• Having pride in your presentation 

• Be proud of what you can do 

• Tell yourself you can 

Perseverance - Don’t stop trying 

You can show perseverance by: 

• Keeping going when a question is tough 

• Practising a skill so that you get better at it 

• Not worrying if you don’t understand 

• Saying ‘I can do this’ 

• Working hard in anything that you find difficult 

Since launching our values, our staff have been working with the children of Newdigate to develop a deep understanding of each value and the associated behaviours so that they can achieve more in all aspects of their learning and future lives.
