This week we wee again writing in role as Grace from our class story. We wrote postcards home sharing our feelings and experiences, some of the children read their work aloud to the class.
When reading 'Grace and Family we prepared to write a diary entry. First we created wordbanks using descriptive language we could use, this included adjectives and adverbs. Then we looked at Grace's emotions during the key events and discussed how she would be feeling before recording our reasons. Finally, we planned the structure of our diary entry before writing it.
Our new Power of Reading book is 'The Hodgeheg' so we started off by researching hedgehogs and creating our own hedgehogs non-fiction reports.
During this week we looked at poetry. We studied and discussed the poems from 'Commotion in the Ocean' including their language and the syllables in each line. Then we used facts to create our own snail or whale poems based on our class book 'The Snail and the Whale'. Also at the end of the week we performed poems in groups.
We rotated large sheets of paper across each table so we could all contribute ideas for description of the underwater setting in 'How To Find Gold'. Each sheet focused on a different sense. First we used green for nouns, red for verbs, blue for adjectives and grey for adverbs. It really helped us write our diary entries.
In English we have been combining our work on the book 'How to Find Gold' with our Science work on habitats. We found a sea monster in the book so in art we designed our own. After that we designed his habitat and added noun phrases ready to plan our descriptions
